Ever wondered what you’d look like as an American pioneer? Or a World War II nurse? A 1930s film star? I hadn’t, until I discovered the AI Time Machine capability. I decided to try it.
The functionality comes from MyHeritage, a genealogical firm. It has also launched several fascinating features, such as Deep Nostalgia, which animates images of people to make them appear to be moving, and LiveStory, which goes a step further and animates a person’s face and lips to make it appear as if they are recounting their entire story. With the new AI Time Machine function, you can now submit images of yourself and see what the AI thinks you’d look like in other historical times.

You may try it out on the MyHeritage website (the functionality is not yet accessible in the app). From the homepage, mouse over “Photos” in the top menu bar and pick “AI Time Machine.” Upload between 10 and 25 photographs. In some US areas, the corporation is giving a free trial, but otherwise, the function costs $10 to use.
I was astonished — and rather concerned — by the results, but they were undeniably hilarious. I wondered what it would do to my hijab, and the result was, well, fascinating. In some photos, The AI combines my hijab into a pirate outfit, while in others, it appears to have determined I have long, blonde, wavy hair. Along with a pirate, the AI saw me as an Ottoman Empire bride (another opportunity to work in the hijab, maybe), a WWII medic, a lady from the 1950s, and an American pioneer. Here are a few of the most fascinating cases.
