How to Disable Certain Upsetting iPhone Texting Features

Posted on July 20, 2025 by Abu Bakar

One of the simplest methods to communicate with friends and family is by texting, and if you’re at a loss for words, you can always use an emoji. However, certain iPhone messaging functions may be quite bothersome to you. Predictive texting and autocorrect are two of the main offenders.

Predictive texting may make it simple to compose a whole message with a few fast taps, and autocorrect can reduce the amount of errors you make while typing. However, the majority of the time when I utilize these capabilities, they either suggest terms I don’t want to use or correct words I don’t wish to have corrected. Additionally, autocorrect and predictive text irritate other people just as much. Fortunately, there are a few simple actions you may take to disable these functions.

Here’s how to disable several of the messaging features on your iPhone to make texting simpler.

Disable inline predictive text.

Similar to predictive text, inline predictive text was introduced in iOS 17 and displays the recommended text in the text field in light gray. According to an article published online by Apple, inline predictive text is designed to anticipate your text as you type and add it to your text if you press space. You risk adding the incorrect content to your message if you press space since the functionality doesn’t always anticipate what you were typing. Additionally, if you’re attempting to read what you’re writing in real time, the gray lettering may be distracting.

Here’s how to disable inline predictive text if you don’t like it.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Press the General button.
3. Press the keyboard.
4. Next to Show Predictions Inline, tap the switch.

You won’t have to worry about typing a word you didn’t mean to enter when you compose a message. Predictive text, including recommended words and emoji, will continue to appear above your keyboard.

Disable all predictive text.

You may also quickly disable all predictive text if you find it unpleasant. Here’s how:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Press the General button.
3. Press the keyboard.
4. Next to Predictive Text, tap the switch.

The iPhone’s Keyboards menu under Settings.

You won’t see a box with emojis or recommended words above your keyboard when you compose a message anymore. You won’t see any recommendations at all if you turn off predictive text since it also turns off inline predictive text. You can type uninterrupted.

Disable autocorrect.

Apple emphasized an enhanced autocorrect feature while announcing iOS 17. However, some users may still find the functionality annoying and change the autocorrected wording. Here’s how to disable autocorrect if you’re tired of it.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Press the General button.
3. Press the keyboard.
4. Press the Auto-Correction switch.

Your iPhone will no longer alter words as you write them, including profanity, when you send a message. You may notice more spelling mistakes in your communications, however. Simply repeat the previous procedures if you want autocorrect to be enabled once again once those mistakes build up.
